Dr. Nguyen Hong Son is currently holding two important positions in Vietnam: Director General of Department of Crop Production (DCP) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (from 2016), and the President of Vietnamese Academy of Agriculture Sciences (2017). Previously Dr. Son was Director General of the Institute of Agricultural Environment (2008-2014), and Director General of Cuu Long Rice Research Institute (2014-2016).

Dr. Nguyen obtained his Ph.D. degree (2000) in Plant Protection from the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. He served as Professor in the Ministry of Education and Training in 2015. Dr Nguyen’s main expertise includes plant protection and crop sciences. He has extensive experience with management of cropping systems, sustainable farming systems, climate change adaptation and mitigation in agriculture. He has three decades of experience leading numerous research and development projects in collaboration with academic, private, NGO, public and international partners. With his  extensive working experience, he has been assigned as the National Focal Point/Representative of AFACI (Korea), APAARI (Korea), FFTC (Taiwan-Japan) in Vietnam.
